After Dr. Brown's (series star TREAT WILLIAMS) declaration of love for Nina (series star STEPHANIE NIZNIK), she must choose between the two men she loves--Dr. Brown and Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF). At Delia's (series star VIVIEN CARDONE) behest, Ephram (series star GREGORY SMITH) makes an emotional return to Everwood just in time for an unexpected wedding. Bright (series star CHRIS PRATT) and Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW) are reunited after their first kiss and a summer spent apart. And Amy (series star EMILY VanCAMP) and Rose (series star MERRILYN GANN) find that Rose's cancer has driven them apart rather than brought them together. Also appearing are series star DEBRA MOONEY as Edna Harper, series star JOHN BEASLEY as Irv Harper and series star TOM AMANDES as Dr. Harold Abbott.
Dr. Brown learns that Ephram has no intention of moving back home, and Bright invites Ephram to move in with him and Reid (recurring guest star JUSTIN BALDONI). Meanwhile, Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW) worries about the long-term possibilities for her relationship with Bright after he shares his "three dates and out" policy. Dr. Abbott is suspicious of Dr. Brown's frequent absences from the office. Nina and Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) celebrate the grand opening of their new restaurant, Sam's. And Ephram and Amy finally confront the unspoken fate of their relationship.
As if adjusting to college life and believing that her secret crush, Reid (recurring guest star JUSTIN BALDONI), is gay weren't enough to handle, Amy learns that Ephram is going to be a regular fixture in her life now that he has moved in with Bright and Reid. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown, Nina and Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) attempt to move on with life after Nina decides which of the men she wants. Bright and Ephram take Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW) to a college party.
Ephram begins giving piano lessons to a 14-year-old piano prodigy, Kyle (recurring guest star STEVEN R. McQUEEN--grandson of movie legend Steve McQueen), but Ephram soon realizes that the music awakens difficult memories from last year. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown advises a brain tumor patient (JOSEPH BOLOGNA) and his wife (RENÉE TAYLOR--Bologna's real-life wife). Dr. Abbott and Rose await the latest cancer test results while dealing with the stress of a mayoral reelection. And Delia tells her father that she wants a Bat Mitzvah.
On a camping trip with his father and Dr. Abbott, Ephram reveals the true reason he returned to Everwood. Bright contemplates a sex-free relationship with Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW) after she tells him that she doesn't believe in pre-marital sex. Meanwhile, Amy grows even more emotionally confused when Reid (recurring guest star JUSTIN BALDONI) asks her to go with him to a Halloween fund-raiser. Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) and Edna's working relationship is put to the test when Edna questions Jake's work ethic. And Ephram learns more about his mysterious piano student, Kyle (recurring guest star STEVEN R. McQUEEN). Series star TOM AMANDES directed the episode.
In hopes of mending Dr. Brown and Jake's (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) friendship, Nina suggests the two men go to counseling together. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown breaks the news to Ephram that Amy may be seeing someone new. Dr. Abbott helps Rose find new direction after she loses the mayoral reelection campaign. And Ephram realizes that Kyle's (recurring guest star STEVEN R. McQUEEN) life may be more complicated than he originally thought.
