Miles Halter moves away to boarding school for a fresh start and meets his roommate Chip and his best friend Alaska. He is smitten with her, but soon finds she is more complex than she seems.
Miles gains the group’s trust as they hatch plans for a prank war against the Weekday Warriors. The prank war escalates into utter chaos. Miles goes through a trial of loyalty and in turn, his friends show him the same loyalty.
Alaska sets Miles up on a date but it doesn’t go well. Meanwhile, Takumi, Paul and Marya suspect that the rat may have been Alaska and accuse her of such in front of the entire school. Alaska suffers a drunken meltdown as a result.
Alaska has turned into an outcast, but Miles decides to spend Thanksgiving at school with her. Their alone time is interrupted when the Colonel is forced to invite them to Thanksgiving. The tension resumes upon their return to campus.
Alaska turns on Miles and he distances himself, but when the Weekday Warriors cross the line, her friends come to her aid. As they celebrate the successful prank, Alaska shares her story and Miles understands her erratic behavior.
The Colonel’s ex-girlfriend warns him about the consequences of the prank they pulled. Later, in the middle of the night, Alaska asks Miles and the Colonel to help her sneak out of the school immediately.
