Young Norma Jeane dreams of stardom and has the tenacity to turn dreams into reality. After her first audition at Fox Studios in Hollywood, the head of casting suggests she change her name and Marilyn Monroe is born.

Marilyn's rise is nearly ruined when news breaks that she has posed nude for a calendar earlier in her career. She uses this to her advantage to kick start a change in attitudes towards female sexuality.

Marilyn creates a new identity in New York. Planning to launch her own production company, Fox refuses to release her contract. After a year of publicity battles, Fox gives Marilyn a new contract for her to make movies on her own terms.

Marilyn triumphs in Some Like it Hot, hangs out with the Rat Pack and sings 'Happy Birthday' to JFK. The weeks before her death show Marilyn on the cusp of a new and exciting future. Her death was tragic, but in many ways her story is not.
