The Hypnotist

Salinero is the owner of the modest hotel Las Violetas and one of the new guests is Arenas, a hypnotist who is appearing at the Teatro Rex. In another part of the town, in Dr. Darek’s office, an insomnia specialist, we see a photo of Lívia. Darek and Arenas are inextricably linked. Each feels intertwined with the other.

It is Sunday and Antunes Calambó, a travelling salesman who is staying at the Hotel Las Violetas, wakes up with a hangover. He is even more confused when he finds a bloody razor in his jacket pocket. To try to help him, Arenas hypnotizes Antunes but without success. He and Salinero follow other clues, which lead them to Celso, a fortune-teller.

Aristocrat Von Eisler and Justina ask for Arenas’ assistance in finding out who painted a valuable portrait. Luiz, Zoraide the fortune-teller’s assistant, is fired. His plan to steal money from the theater safe and blackmail the owner is found out. Meanwhile, Anita is suspicious of Gregório and follows him to Castor’s store.

After experiencing the presence of a ghost in her room, Domingas takes refuge in the library. She goes to the theater to find Madame Zoraide. At the theater Arenas speaks to Margarita, companion and assistant of Marenko, the weapons artist. She tells him about The Ivory Door, where the deepest dreams are deciphered.

Arenas hypnotizes Domingas on his show and her mysteries appear to be revealed. At the store, after hypnotizing Gregório, Darek learns about Castor’s magic mirror and both hatch a plan for Arenas to look into it.

Arenas is arrested on suspicion of murder and Inspector Renzo makes him an offer. Eventually, Renzo finds the bag full of money but also gets a surprise. Meanwhile Darek is in despair that Arenas is still alive and has escaped.
