Ron receives a surprise in the mail: the title on a home that his wife Jennifer and his daughter Erica bought without his approval. The Ridgeway ladies decide to rescue a boxer dog named Brewster. Ron, who doesn't want another dog, ends up warming up to Brewster as the family prepares to demolish a property and rebuild a new home.

Jennifer helps Erica move a piece of furniture she bought on Craigslist without telling her husband Garrett about it. Erica, who never cooks, helps Jennifer prepare a giant pot of homemade dog food. Ron, a regular blood donor, discusses his philosophy of giving back to the community.

Despite problems on the job site, Ron wants to hit the town for a nice dinner with a reluctant Jennifer. Meanwhile, Erica and her friend Nicole head to the river and sneak Garrett's boat out for a fishing trip. A restless Ron attempts to sneak out for a bike ride after his neck surgery, angering Jennifer.

Erica shares the results of her pregnancy test with Garrett and they experience their first ultra sound together. Ron and Jennifer bicker over work problems until Erica and Garret reveal the good news to the whole family.
