Episode 1

S1 E1: In 1686, Nella Oortman arrives in Amsterdam to begin a new life, following her marriage to one of the city's most successful merchants, Johannes Brandt. Johannes is absent but she meets his sister Marin, along with servant Otto, and the oddly insolent maid Cornelia. Johannes finally arrives but has no time for Nella, and she is shocked to discover how intimate his relationship is with his sister. Johannes continues to avoid Nella, but gives her a spectacular cabinet house as a wedding gift.
