Now that Emily Prentiss has returned, the unit track down a serial killer hiding out in the woods before he can strike again.

Gibbs is forced to come back out of his retirement to help Fornell and his daughter Emily, who are being threatened by a convict who has escaped from prison. Gibbs and the NCIS team reopen the convict's old robbery case and question a retired sailor, who is the only person to have contacted the convict after he was sent to prison. The investigation then leads the NCIS team to a surprising discovery.

The Jeffersonian team investigates the death of Stephanie McNamara, the daughter of a wealthy family whose remains were found in a national park. When the team digs deeper into the circumstances surrounding her death, clues from the case lead them to believe she may be the Ghost Killer's latest victim, with a surprising connection to a previous victim. Meanwhile, the FBI Deputy Director takes a special interest in the team's high-profile case and Booth's career may be in for some changes.

When a new neighbour moves in next door to Earl and Randy, Earl is reminded of a scam he and Joy pulled on the guy years ago by selling him a lemon car. Meanwhile, Joy wants to win a science fair in order to get a necklace.

The team must unravel three separate confessions in order to solve the case of a young man brutally beaten and raped.
