Aldi's Next Big Thing

Small-scale British food and drink producers get the opportunity to pitch their products to Aldi. They include an ambitious sauce-maker, a pie-making perfectionist, and two young hopefuls who think insects are the future of food.

An eclectic group of bakers compete to get their products stocked on Aldi's shelves. They include a chef who's patented his own dessert sushi, a pair of young doughnut connoisseurs, and a couple whose fruit cakes pack a serious rum punch.

Aldi's head buyer Julie goes on the hunt for the next healthy and wholesome product. From camel's milk to kombucha, roast dinner kimchi and protein-packed fava beans, Julie's tastebuds are put to the test.

It's Fresh and Deli week, and the stakes are high for a very eclectic bunch of producers. The products pitched range from vegan cheese and chocolate cheese to meat bathed in red wine and fancy samosas.

Products including Norfolk mustard ice cream and chocolate-flavoured pasta bid to make their way onto the shelves at Aldi. Flavour is the watch word, as the suppliers do their best to prove that their product can compete with the iconic brands.

Vying for a place on Aldi's shelves in the treat category is beer filled with Yorkshire pudding, a chocolate/crisps hybrid, and some handmade chocolates that really tug at the heartstrings.
