Erik has quit his job as a police officer and retired to his home town following an acrimonious conflict. He reluctantly agrees to help Markus, a mining entrepreneur, who has been subjected to attacks by an environmental extremist.

The police suspect that Benjamin has built a bomb and wants to postpone the planned shareholders' meeting. Markus refuses, and asks Erik to take charge of security.

Benjamin's laptop has been examined in the forensic lab and the case around Markus is starting to become clear. Karl is in a coma in the hospital, and Erik is planning to confess what exactly happened when Karl caught him.

Erik is convinced that Benjamin's laptop contains important and incriminating information, and will stop at nothing to get his hands on it.

Peter tells the Chief of Police that Erik saw incriminating surveillance footage that proves Markus' guilt. Before Erik can even make a statement, he is abducted.

During a violent confrontation, Erik falls down an old, remote mine shaft.
