When Miami blood-spatter expert Dexter Morgan is not out solving murders, he's a serial killer out committing them. Dexter's world is shaken when another serial killer commits a riveting series of perfect slayings.

In the midst of preparing for his next victim, Dexter is thrust into turmoil when the other serial killer, dubbed the `Ice Truck Killer', privately informs him that he knows Dexter's morbid secret.

Dexter arrives at a crime scene to find that one of the victims he had disposed of has mysteriously returned to the scene of the kill. The noose is tightened further when LaGuerta finds a young Cuban boy hiding at the crime scene - there's no way he missed seeing Dexter capture the victim.

Dexter Morgan has a problem, several in fact: his victims are escaping, Doakes is suspicious and constantly tailing him and, on top of all that, he cannot seem to kill anyone. It's not that Dexter doesn't want to, he does - he needs to.
