Up Next: Koffee
When Mikayla Simpson’s breezy tribute to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt went viral on Instagram in 2017, she knew her life was about to change. “I had never written a full piece before 'Tribute to Usain’,” the singer known as Koffee tells Apple Music. “It set the pace for my career.” It wasn’t long before her first official single “Rapture” was being played around the world, but Koffee is striving for more than just hits. The soft-spoken songwriter is being hailed the new voice of reggae music, and a young ambassador of Jamaican culture to the rest of the world. “I see myself as a tool that will aid in carrying on reggae music and the reggae legacy,” she says. “My purpose is defined by a higher call.” Get to know the rising star in our Beats 1 interview and short film, and listen to a new remix of “Rapture" in our Up Next playlist.
