Chris Hayes

Chris Hayes, a television host working in the field of political commentary, became the youngest host of a prime-time American cable news show when he started presenting MSNBC's weekday evening news and opinion hour "All In with Chris Hayes" (2013-) at the age of 34. Prior to this, he hosted the weekend morning discussion series "Up With Chris Hayes" (MSNBC 2011-13) and regularly provided guest commentary on "The Rachel Maddow Show" (MSNBC 2008-), "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" (MSNBC 2010-), "Now with Alex Wagner" (MSNBC 2011-) and "Real Time with Bill Maher" (HBO 2003-). Born in The Bronx, Hayes attended Brown University in Providence, RI, where he studied philosophy and took extra-curricular drama classes alongside his friend and classmate, actor John Krasinski. A Puffin Foundation Writing Fellow at the Nation Institute, Hayes eventually became Washington editor of The Nation, continuing his print journalism career at publications including In These Times and The Chicago Reader. His first book, Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy, was published in 2012. He credited his career in television to fellow MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, for whom he started out as a stand-in replacement in 2010.
