Arni’s place at Viking Skool is in doubt after Mr Hammerson announces the fearsome ‘Tests of Worth’. He uses his artistic skills to forge a message that sends Hammerson off to defend his home village from an imaginary attack – but Arni’s attempts to get Hammerson out of the way backfire when Mistress Eira brings in a substitute – the softly-spoken but utterly ruthless Miss Sinew. Our heroes set out on a desperate quest to get Hammerson back, before Sinew’s even harder Tests mean everyone fails!

Annoyed by the pretentious Doomhild, Ylva throws out a challenge. Hammerson turns it into a shortboat race around storm-locked Sommerskys Isle. But in her determination to win, Ylva forgets a thing: being a captain is also about listening to your crew. Surely that seasick Erik is no much use, but Arni as the son of fishermen feels he could help! Ylva insists on a disastrous shortcut through the storm, and the Trio end up shipwrecked on the isle where they discover the endless storm is caused by two enlessly warring Storm Elementals.

A meteor of rare ‘sky-metal’ falls from the sky and lands at Erik’s feet, causing the glyph on his sword to glow! He’s convinced this is a sign that he is the ‘chosen one’, and the sky-stone will unlock formidable hero powers. When his experiments send the sky-stone flying off into a distant cave, Erik and his friends go after it and discover that the sky-stone is equally attracted to a troll. Erik’s delusions grow greater: his sword must give him power over trolls! Disaster strikes and they all end up trapped in the cave.

Arni is delighted when he starts getting praise for his cookery skills but his well-meant advice offends the fearsome cook Ladeler, leaving Arni in sole charge of the kitchens – with Mistress Eira demanding a banquet for their important Valkyrie guest, Turid. Arni’s going to need Erik and Ylva’s help. He rapidly becomes a tyrant in the kitchen and have all his friends driven away. Panicking, he uses a recipe that unfortunately knocks out all the students and leaves the twos Valkyries in a sleep-fighting state.

Raised in the wild, Ylva is is still adjusting to life in ‘civilisation’. She feels she does not fit in Sinew’s new Diplomacy classes. Needing some alone time, she runs off into the forest, only to run into Vargir, a charming young outlaw. He’s quick to offer his friendship to a fellow ‘wild child’. But he is a schemer and a crook, trying to trick her into helping him kidnap Nanna, Garrick’s favourite goat. Garrick wants Eira to expel Ylva immediately, but Erik and Arni are given a chance to bring her back and clear her name.

Erik insists that he hasn’t caught the contagious Goat Flu that he in fact has caught... resulting in the whole Skool coming down with an illness that leaves them sneezing, bleating and craving vegetables. Someone has to bring back the cure: the spittle of a rare Albino Goat. Erik feels it should be his duty - but Ylva is chosen as the only healthy warrior left. Erik tags along on Ylva’s quest. His bleats and sneezes set off a small avalanche that annoys some Ice Trolls who start following Erik’s trail right back to Viking Skool!
