Based on director Catherine Breillat’s own experiences with a debilitating stroke and an infamous conman that took advantage of her compromised condition, in the film, Isabelle Huppert plays Maud Schoenberg, a filmmaker who has suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. While in therapy, Schoenberg sees a television interview with conman Vilko Piran (Kool Shen) and soon thereafter ask this shady figure to star in her next film. Piran agrees on the condition that he gets to know her and what follows is a relationship built on lies and manipulation, not to mention an abuse of weakness.
