World Salsa Championships
The World Salsa Championships (WSC) brings the finest dancers from 5 continents every four years to compete for cash and glory. This video contains the latest show produced in Atlanta GA that aired on ESPN TV. This visually stunning competition, commonly referred as “The Olympics of Salsa, features the world’s most accomplished Salsa dancers showcasing their moves in five divisions. Elite couples and teams who won or placed in national or international competitions will vie for titles in Salsa On-1 (L. A. Style), Salsa On-2 (Mambo), Cabaret (tricks and lifts permitted), Teams (six-plus dancers), and Same-Gender division. Our champions have been featured in famous shows like America’s Got Talent, NBC World of Dance, Italy’s Got Talent, Bailando por un Sueno, the World Games and others. The WSC was established in 2005. Previous Championships have been hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada, Disney Resorts in Orlando, Hollywood, Florida and most recently in Atlanta, GA. The events have been broadcast via ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN International, IMG Media and other international networks. Salsa dancing is now a global discipline and the ultimate DanceSport. It is all about balancing the artistry of dance with the athleticism of a physically demanding sport. The certified panel of judges must evaluate timing, musicality, technique, difficulty, partnering connection, choreography and overall presentation. After years of campaigning to get Ballroom dancing officially classified as a sport, Salsa has officially been recognized by the International Olympic Committee as a ‘DanceSport’. The World Games now recognizes Ballroom and Salsa as part of their competitive sports and our goal is for one day to become an Olympic sport.
