Ted gets accepted into law school in Utah but fails to ask Elizabeth to move there with him; female students continue to disappear throughout Washington; a composite sketch of the suspect convinces a campus cop that the disappearances may be linked.
More disappearances follow Ted to Utah where he attends law school; Elizabeth wonders whether her boyfriend is the culprit; Ted gets arrested after a kidnapping survivor identifies him, thrusting Elizabeth into a nightmarish no man's land.
Ted escapes from prison; Elizabeth has bad dreams and big fears; gruesome news reports out of Florida point to his whereabouts; a collect call from a Pensacola jail brings her to her senses; however, the nation gets swept up in Bundy mania.
Sentenced to die, Ted professes his innocence; Elizabeth and her daughter try to put this chapter of their lives behind them; in a last ditch effort to save his own life, Ted starts confessing, and his lawyer, Polly Nelson, is shaken to the core.
