Living with the Amish
Available on Channel 4
With all of the modern amenities and technology that British teenagers use today, it would be a real culture shock for them to have to give it all up. That's what happens to eight teens in this reality programme. The British teens are sent to Ohio to spend six weeks living in an Amish community, where they experience hard work and simple living. The teens, from a range of backgrounds, live with six different families - who make them trade in their mobile phones, modern clothing and video-game systems for hymn books, faded dungarees and traditional pastimes, like blanket-stitching and making wooden toys. The goal of this `Amish detox' is to reveal the advantages of a pure, uncluttered way of life and to allow the youths to discover who they really are as individuals.
