The mysterious Man sits in the booth at the end of another diner, offering the same deal as before: one wish fulfilled in exchange for completing a task that The Man assigns after consulting his black book. Everyone’s reason for coming to him is different. Some approach him looking for immortality, others ask for protection for their loved ones. Many customers are selfish, others selfless. The Man begins to show signs of change when Doris, the inquisitive waitress from the previous diner, shows up to continue her line of questioning. At his request, she gives The Man a task from the book and observes as he struggles to remain emotionally attached from the events he has set in motion.
