Suffering under a great plague, Salem's leading witch, Mary Sibley, faces both foreign and domestic challenges to her authority.

Mercy wants to rule Salem alone and uses Hathorne to do so. Anne is pregnant and being tortured by the devil. Cotton therefore returns to save and protect his unborn child and Anne.

Sebastian wants to run away with Mary, but she feels a duty to Salem. Cotton is happy about his offspring, however he has no idea that witchcraft is actually responsible for the pregnancy.

Even if the devil is defeated, the threat from his brother remains. Guardian's suggestion to eliminate the brother would mean the destruction of Salem. Tituba puts forward a gentler method, but John does not really trust the witch.

Mary's penance for her betrayal takes a deadly turn while Cotton is forced to perform an exorcism of his own.

Cotton escapes and learns something very important that could change his life. Mary, meanwhile, discovers the power of her femininity and decides to take up the fight against Satan.
