While faced with the overwhelming challenge of convincing the dead passengers to cross over, Melinda encounters the evil spirit of 'Wide Brim Man', who is working against her to keep the spirits earthbound. In addition, Melinda has to defend herself to investigators who want to know how and why she knew there was trouble with the plane prior to the crash.

After Melinda falls and injures her head, she discovers that she can no longer communicate with earthbound spirits and fears that she has lost her 'gift' forever. To complicate matters, Melinda is asked to help comfort a teenage girl who is devastated by the recent death of her boyfriend. Now, Melinda faces the challenge of helping the young teenager cross over while questioning whether her gift will ever return.

Melinda meets another ghost whisperer but begins to fear him when she discovers his connection to professor Payne's wife.
