Ted and Robin are surprised to bump into Barney when they volunteer at a homeless refuge during Thanksgiving. Lily's nerves are tested when she goes for Thanksgiving dinner at her future in-laws' house.

Lily uncovers a video of Barney's and touches on his embarrassing past, but he'll only tell them the rest of the story if they'll share their own humiliating stories. Barney seizes the opportunity to get Ted to tell Victoria about his obsession with Robin.

Marshall and Lily worry that Lily will never fall pregnant. To allay their fears, the couple visit a specialist who bears an uncanny resemblance to Barney.

Zoey sets Ted up on a date with her naïve cousin. Ted realises that he loves Zoey but tries to push her away so that he doesn't cause trouble in her relationship. Meanwhile, Marshall takes up some of his old habits.

Barney declares February 13th to be `Desperation Day', a holiday for women with low self-esteem because they are destined to be alone on Valentine's Day.

While on a trip to Minnesota, Ted and Barney try anything to make Marshall laugh. Marshall runs into an old nemesis from high school.
