Ira Steven Behr

Best remembered for his work as a producer on the "Star Trek" franchise, Ira Steven Behr first studied theater and communications at Lehman College. After graduation, he was offered a playwriting scholarship at Brandeis University, but chose to move out west and pursue screenwriting in Los Angeles instead. In 1982, he landed his first job as a TV writer on the James Garner western "Bret Maverick." From there he became a part of the writing staff for the TV musical series "Fame," and built his reputation for scripted drama. After two years, Behr became a producer on the project. In 1989, he was hired to join the producers on the third season of the "Star Trek" spin-off "Star Trek: The Next Generation." The next year, he also penned a few episodes of the series. In 1993, he was brought on board "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," first as a writer, then as a producer. Since then, he's gone on to write and produce several science fiction series including: "Dark Angel," "The Twilight Zone," and "The 4400." In 2009, Behr moved on to more bare bones drama with "Crash," a TV spin-off of the Oscar-winning film about racial tension in Los Angeles.
