Karan Malhotra

After over a decade in the film business, Indian filmmaker Karan Malhotra finally made his directorial debut with 2012's "Agneepath," which proved to be an overwhelming success as it shattered box office records in India. Starting out behind the scenes in Bollywood, Malhotra learned his craft by working as a production assistant on films such as "Hadh Kar Di Aapne" in 2000, moving up the ranks to assistant director on the action thriller "Pukar" and the musical "Lajja," starring Anil Kapoor. Malhotra's next job was as third assistant director on the musical "Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge," followed by more A.D. assignments on popular titles like "Main Hoon Na" and "Lakshya" in 2004. Up next was the high-profile musical comedy "Jaan-E-Mann: Let's Fall in Love... Again" and in 2008 Malhotra served as chief assistant director on the acclaimed historical drama "Jodhaa Akbar," a film that depicted the love affair between Emperor Akbar and the princess Jodha. In 2010, Malhotra got a chance to work with director and producer Karan Johar on his film "My Name Is Khan," a successful partnership that led Johar to tap Malhotra as director for the remake of his father's 1990 revenge film, "Agneepath." Malhotra's "Agneepath" proved so popular, the director is considering making a sequel.
