Emily Barclay

British actress Emily Barclay is best known for "In My Father's Den" and "Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole." Barclay was born in Plymouth, England, but her first role was on the long-running New Zealand prime-time soap opera "Shortland Street," about a fictional hospital in Auckland City. She subsequently appeared on William Shatner's "A Twist in the Tale" and in the horror film "No One Can Hear You." In 2001, Barclay was featured in the New Zealand drama "Mercy Peak" and the TV movie "Terror Peak," about an active volcano. Her breakthrough role came in 2004 with the critically acclaimed drama "In My Father's Den," centered on a war photographer who returns to his small, suburban hometown. In 2006, Barclay starred in the black comedy "Suburban Mayhem," which premiered at Cannes. The film won Best Original Feature Film from the Australian Writers Guild and won Barclay Best Lead Actress at both the Australian Film Institute Awards and the Inside Film Awards. Barclay lent her voice to the 2010 animated film "Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," directed by Zack Snyder. The children's fantasy landed at number two in the American box office on its opening weekend.
