Richard Newman

Prolific voice artist Richard Newman's long career in voice acting began in 1979, and since then he can be heard in more than 130 television programs, animated movies, and video games. Like many voice artists, Newman not only provides the original voice to characters that are then animated to match his speech, but also provides the English-language overdub to a number of foreign-produced animations that are being retooled for American audiences. It was in the latter capacity that he voiced the character of Maruten, Kotobuki's Secretary, in the satirical Japanese anime "Project A-Ko Versus Battle 1: Grey Side," a role he reprised for the sequel "Project A-Ko Versus Battle 2: Blue Side." Newman has made a career of lending his voice to animated characters, though he sometimes landed onscreen acting roles, as he did in the lesser-known Leslie Nielson action-comedy "Camouflage." Despite his handful of live-action portrayals, Newman is best known to fans of "Beast Wars: Transformers," a spinoff of the popular 1980s robot-battling cartoon "The Transformers." Newman voiced the gruff but loyal Rhinox on "Beast Wars" and on its later incarnation, "Beast Machines: Transformers." He would go on to provide the voice for another character in the "Transformers" universe, Vector Prime, in the spin-offs "Transformers: Galaxy Force" and "Transformers: Cybertron."
