James Gilbert

Born and raised in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, Gilbert always had an urge to act. When he decided on a college, Gilbert chose the prestigious Royal Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. After graduating in 2004, Gilbert moved back to Canada to put his acting degree to good use. He began auditioning for various film and TV roles, before landing a small part as a National Guard Lieutenant in the 2005 action drama "American Soldiers." Over the next three years Gilbert nabbed small parts on the TV movie "My Daughter's Secret" (2007) and the long-running teen drama "Degrassi: The Next Generation" (CTV, 2001-09, MuchMusic 2010-15) before his breakout performance on "The Tudors."On the series, Gilbert played a fictionalized version of a historical figure - William Brereton - that was hired to assassinate Anne Boleyn. His character met his fate at the end of the show's second season, but the exposure allowed Gilbert to broaden his skillset beyond television. In addition to appearing in the celebrated American stage dramas, "Glengarry Glenn Ross" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," Gilbert also started adding film roles to his growing list of credits, including "The Cry of the Owl" (2009) and "Saw VI," along with a guest spot on the period TV series "Copper" (BBC America, 2012-13). In 2013 Gilbert landed his first starring film role in "The Conspiracy." The Canadian horror film was nominated for Best North American Independent Film at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
