Jenny Lumet

Daughter of prolific director Sidney Lumet, and granddaughter of pioneering singer-actress Lena Horne, it was no surprise that Jenny Lumet's life led her into entertainment. Born in New York City, Lumet appeared in her father's film "Deathtrap" (1982) before graduating from the Dalton School in 1984. Her father directed her in another small role in "Running on Empty" (1988), and she played a leading role in his film "Q & A" (1990), starring Nick Nolte and Armand Assante. In the mid-1990's Lumet decided to try her hand at screenwriting, and after a number of attempts, her screenplay "Rachel Getting Married" (2008) was filmed by director Jonathan Demme, starring Anne Hathaway. In 2017, she was awarded screen-story credit on "The Mummy" starring Tom Cruise, after introducing the idea of a female antagonist in her version of the screenplay. She was also one of the writers on "Valley Girl" (2018), a musical adaptation of the movie originally released in 1983.
