Kateri Walker

Kateri Walker is a Native actress who studied theater and drama at the University of Michigan. But after graduating, Walker worked for a time at Dow Chemical. Feeling that pursuing that line of work was not creatively gratifying, she decided to take a chance on acting professionally, something that she could feel truly passionate about. Roles for Native actors in Hollywood tend to be limited to action films and Westerns, but Walker was cast as Simone Bordeau on the daytime soap "As the World Turns" in the early 1990s. She later had a small part in the historical romance "The Scarlet Letter," starring Demi Moore and Gary Oldman. The film was a notorious critical and commercial flop in its day, but Walker managed to get past it unscathed. Her resume does have a few Westerns on it, including the television movie "Stolen Women, Captured Hearts," the mystery "Jericho," and the hallucinatory "Renegade." Her role in the latter film written and directed by French cult director Jan Kounen, was specifically written for her. She can also be seen in the crime drama "Diamond Men," in the science fiction drama "K-PAX," and in the Dolph Lundgren action movie "Missionary Man." Her lead role in the Native American indie drama "Kissed by Lightning," released in 2009, received rave reviews.
