Extreme climber Andreas Marthaler wants to open a climbing school at the Grand Canyon with his girlfriend Sarah. It's a good thing that Sarah is the daughter of a world-famous outdoor and sporting goods outfitter. But before they get started, Andreas visits his best friend Stefan. He is the head of the mountain rescue service and wants to finally marry his partner Emilie, with whom he already has two children. The morning after the wedding, Stefan is called out on a mission, and of course his friend Andreas accompanies him. They have scaled this climb a thousand times, but then the unthinkable happens: Stefan falls, and Andreas has to watch his friend die despite a dramatic rescue operation. To Sarah's horror, Andreas decides to postpone his plans for the future. He feels responsible for Emilie and his friend's family and wants to take care of them and their children. The farm and the guesthouse must be kept running in order to keep the family afloat. Also, his friend Stefan is similarly missed in the mountain rescue service at every turn. Thus, Andreas moves into a small trailer on Emilie's farm and takes on his friend's job at the mountain rescue service. Before Andreas knows it, he finds himself in the middle of a new life. With the mountain rescue team, Andreas experiences exciting and highly dramatic rescue missions, and the responsibility for his new family and a budding love for Emilie make the Grand Canyon seem further and further away.
