Inferno on Earth

The Second World War is one of the bloodiest wars in human history. It characterised the 20th century like no other conflict. The technological race between conflict partners created an arsenal of better and new weapon systems and catapulted humanity into the nuclear age. 50 million people lost their lives in this war and even today the effects of this conflict continue.

As the fighting progressed, the face of war also changed. While humanistic values were initially respected, these gradually disappeared. Strategies and tactics became more brutal and revealed the conflicting parties' deadly contempt for their opponents. These didn't even stop at civilians. The so-called "War on the home front" ended up with dropping the atomic bomb on a city.
