S1, E3: Maureen Lipman, Larry Lamb and Michael Buerk are joined by former Doctor Who, Peter Davison, and television presenter Janet Ellis, as they travel across Britain exploring our enduring fondness for heritage, history and tradition. Maureen and Larry are in Dover discovering its rich military past and key strategic position in defending the British mainland; they visit Western Heights, designed to protect Dover from French invasion during the Napoleonic Wars and see the gun battery on top of the walls in action. Larry also descends 75 feet underground inside the iconic White Cliffs to visit a recently-discovered network of tunnels dug during the Second World War to provide shelter from Hitler's guns. Michael visits the Hovercraft Museum in Hampshire to sample the revolutionary transport that could cross the English Channel in around half an hour. Peter Davison shares his passion for the River Thames, from its secret stretches to the incredible view of it from Richmond Hill. And Janet Ellis goes behind the scenes at Britain's most controversial airbase - Greenham Common, the site of the Women's Peace Camps in the 1980s protesting at the deployment of cruise missiles.
