A demanding and financially strained Broadway director, Julian Marsh, accepts the job of directing the new musical, Pretty Lady, ignoring his precarious health to seize the opportunity. However, an unforeseen injury to the leading lady's ankle catapults a previously unknown young actress into the starring role of the Broadway musical.
