Responsible
In California in the 1970s, a man named Yvon Chouinard launched a small company, PATAGONIA. He was one of the first to think differently about business. Fifty years on, this film embarks on a journey to meet the people he influenced around the world. For more than 15 years, Andy Fyfe has been fighting to ensure that companies take responsibility for the social and environmental emergencies that the world faces. Despite a capitalist system skewed by the influence of the writings of economist Milton Friedman in 1970, a handful of entrepreneurs nevertheless believe that their responsibilities go far beyond the simple idea of generating profits for their shareholders. In their opinion, every company could and should manage to make a profit while respecting the fundamental principles of a responsible company: taking responsibility for its global impact on the world, intended or not.
