Luther Campbell

Born in Miami, Florida, Luther Campbell, also known as Luke Skyywalker, Uncle Luke and Luke, is an American rapper, promoter, record executive, actor, and former leader of the rap group 2 Live Crew. In the early 1980s, Campbell worked as a cook and as a concert promoter in Miami. In 1983, he enrolled in an eight-week study course at Miami public radio station WDNA, where he learned basic audio editing and production techniques. In 1984, Campbell brought 2 Live Crew to Miami for a performance and began managing them. Campbell gave 2 Live Crew a record deal and officially joined the group. In 1992, Campbell released his first official solo album. June 8, 1993 saw the release of his third solo album. In 1994, Campbell reunited with Fresh Kid Ice and a rapper named Verb. Together, they made an album under the banner The New 2 Live Crew. Campbell's fourth album was released on July 12, 1994. Also in 1994, Campbell co-founded Liberty City Optimists, an inner city youth sports program. Uncle Luke was released on May 14, 1996. In 1998, Campbell played a supporting role in the movie, "Ride." Campbell released his seventh album on March 13, 2001. In December 2007, Campbell launched The Luke Entertainment Group. In 2008, he starred in his own show on VH1, "Luke's Parental Advisory." From 2014 to 2015, Luther Campbell reunited with 2 Live Crew for a series of shows.
