The Andromeda protects Nietzschean colonies from an unprovoked attack by the Genites. Tyr's wife's colony is one of those under attack, and she shocks Tyr by telling him they have a son, who is the target of the Genite attacks.

Tyr goes off, supposedly to look for his family, and Rommie's body is hijacked as she and Harper are preparing for the launch of a new High Guard ship.
