Olivia is always tired these days. When a rest does not help, she sees a doctor and learns what is wrong. Jim-Boy tries to show that he can do more than just work on machines.

Olivia returns home to find many changes; John helps locate a recruit gone AWOL; Erin considers asking for a raise; Erin confronts Pickett; Jason shapes up his recruits; a grieving father attacks Jim-Bob; John-Boy is missing in action.

While Jim-Bob is working underneath a car, it falls and Jim-Bob has a close call with death and decides to become a minister.

Jim-Bob finds out he is not eligible to fly in the Air Corps due to bad vision. He realises he can join to work on the planes even if he cannot fly them.

The Walton family takes in an old school friend of John-Boy's who is confined to a wheelchair after suffering an injury in the war.

Jason struggles to complete a major musical composition, and a plan for a Walton's Mountain Founders' Day develops.
