Nathan Chen

U.S. figure skater Nathan Chen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest of five children. He got his start on the ice at age 3, and by 2003 had entered his first skating competition. He qualified to compete in the U.S. Junior Nationals in both 2007 and 2008. At the 2009 Junior Nationals, he took the intermediate men's silver medal. By 2010 he had advanced to the next level, winning the national novice title at the U.S. Championships - the youngest novice champion in the history of U.S. figure skating. Rather than advance to the next level, he remained a novice in 2011 and reclaimed his title. In 2012 he moved to the junior level, winning the junior men's title at the 2012 U.S. Championships in California. That same year he made his first international appearance, winning the novice men's event at the 2012 Gardena Spring Trophy in Italy. In 2013, he won the junior men's bronze at the U.S. Championships in Nebraska, and at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Bulgaria, he took bronze again. By November 2014 he was competing at the senior level, and was named to the U.S. team for the 2015 World Junior Championships. In 2016 he made his international senior debut, and by 2017 he had been named to the 2017 World Team and had secured a spot at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
