Rickey Smiley

American comedian Rickey Smiley was born Broderick Dornell Smiley. Born and raised in Alabama, Smiley got a bachelor's degree from The University of Alabama in 1991. He got his start as a comedian performing in amateur comedy nights at The Comedy Club. From there he began touring and performing stand-up comedy professionally. He earned a few acting roles, including a cameo in "All About the Benjamins" (2002). In 2004 he was hired as the morning show host for KBFB-FM/97.9 in Dallas, Texas. His raw comedic style and infamous prank calls proved very successful and, in 2008, the show expanded to a nationwide audience. The recognition he earned hosting the radio show helped him to star in his own comedy special "Rickey Smiley: Open Casket Sharp" (2011). Also in 2011, Smiley became a regular voice on the pop culture and celebrity gossip show "Dish Nation" (Fox, 2011-). He was an executive producer and star of the sitcom "The Rickey Smiley Show" (TV One, 2012-2014). While that series was canceled after three seasons, "Rickey Smiley For Real" (TV One, 2015-2018) garnered more attention. The reality series showcased Smiley's life as a comedian, father, and radio personality and ran for 5 seasons. In 2021 Rickey Smiley released his memoir "Stand By Your Truth: And Then Run For Your Life" (Simon & Schuster, New York).
