Michael starts a murder-mystery game to distract staff from rumours of Dunder-Mifflin filing for bankruptcy. Andy uses the game as cover to ask out Erin, but is unsure if she thinks it's for real.

Dwight and Jim try to infuse the staff with holiday spirit, but Michael is outraged when Jim allows Phyllis to play Santa at the Dunder Mifflin Christmas party. A new warehouse worker catches Oscar's eye.

Michael realises that he cannot keep a decade-old promise to pay college tuition for a several children. Jim hopes an Employee of the Month award will raise spirits amidst rumours of Dunder Mifflin going under.
