The volunteers enter the forest and are given some basic survival tips and a freshly killed deer by archaeologist and survival expert Klint Janulis.

Leader Steve lectures the team about being wasteful. Paul sets out to build a boar trap while Kym makes an unpleasant discovery.

With rations low and the animal traps empty, Steve organises a fishing party. After trekking for more than three hours the hungry anglers cast their lines, but while they get many bites landing a fish proves to be impossible.

The tribe will only last a day with the rations they have left and Steve decides to use the last of his dried meat rations as bait to catch fish. He hopes he can save the group from going hungry, but his efforts only produce lacklustre results.

The tribe faces a food ration shortage after 10 days. Rachel begins to struggle as the temperature drops. The situation becomes dangerous during snowfall and the production team considers evacuating everyone.

The final seven members of the group decide to carry on with the experiment. They plan to prolong the life of their limited resources, including a deer carcass. But not all participants are pleased about it.
