Former 70s rock star Bobby Rivers discovers he has twin children: Anna and Thomas; joined by long-term friend Tracy, they all move in with Bobby and come to terms with their new family model.

The kids learn their mother's estate leaves them no choice, but to stay with Bobby; embarrassed by having Bobby for a father, Thomas tries to hire an actor to play his dad at the school's parent-teacher evening.
