In the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki, Alice Roberts learns about local legend Alexander the Great and his father, Philip II, King of Macedonia. She then takes a train west and visits an ancient Greek burial chamber.

In Penteli, north of Athens, Alice explores the Sanctuary of Dionysus, named after the Greek god of wine. According to legend, Thespis, the leader of a dancing troupe, created the theatre after a night of drinking and partying.

The train to Athens crosses the Corinth Canal, construction on which begun as early as 67 AD, but was only completed in 1893. In Corinth, Alice meets her guide, a man named Socrates, who takes her on a tour of a fascinating archaeological dig.

In Paros, Alice tours ancient sites. She takes a small boat to the stunning and rather small island of Delos, where the Temple of Apollo once stood.

Alice sees the spectacular city of Ephesus that has been beautifully preserved. Travelling to the next location, she is saddened to see that an important historic rock carving from an empire before the Greeks has been vandalised.
