Dr. Andrew Brown, a recently widowed neurosurgeon, moves to a small Colorado town with his two children; Delia, 9, adjusts to her new surroundings, but Ephram, 15, resents leaving New York.

Andy's dedication to his work once again strains his relationship with his son; Ephram's interest in Amy continues to grow; Delia gets into trouble when she challenges her teacher's rules.

Dr. Brown and his son help deliver a neighbour's baby; Amy curries favour with her friends by taking back an invitation to Ephram; Delia tries to befriend the school bully.

Drs. Brown and Abbott must put aside their differences to treat several teens for a sexually transmitted disease and to educate townspeople.

Andy and Ephram return a deer to its woodland home after it takes up residence in the back yard; Delia questions the existence of God.

Andy decides against performing a risky operation on Amy's comatose boyfriend.
