In 1923 Toronto, young reporter Morley Callaghan quickly befriends Ernest Hemingway, bonding over their passion for writing and boxing. But as Hemingway's career advances, his fame causes tensions between the two men when they move to Paris.

As Callaghan's success grows, Hemingway becomes increasingly jealous and their friendship descends into rivalry; a boxing match between them makes things worse still.
