Ziyad Khan saves a child, Bayindir, from the battlefield and raises him as his own son nine years before the birth of his biological son, Mahmut.

Mahmut and Meryem, the daughter of a Christian monk, fall in love. This displeases his father, who would like him to be emperor.

Mahmut leaves the palace to search for Meryem and sees the human tragedies caused by his father's cruel reign. Bayindir causes trouble at the palace.

Mahmut and Meryem are parted by assassins sent by Bayindir. Meryem's father turns to dark forces to keep her apart from Mahmut.
