Graham 'Polly' Farmer was brought up from early childhood in a 'home for light skinned Aboriginal children'. Young Polly channelled his prodigious footballing talent to become a legendary player for the East Perth, Geelong and West Perth clubs, revolutionising the game in the process. Farmer introduced the modern running and handpassing game to mainstream Aussie Rules.

Barry Cable is a Nyoongar man from Narrogin, Western Australia. In his 405 game career with East Perth, North Melbourne and West Perth between 1962 and 1979, Cable played in six premiership-winning teams. He is one of the greatest rovers and most awarded players in AFL history.

Jim and Phil Krakouer are brothers who grew up in Mt Barker, South Western Australia. The deadly duo played scintillating football together for North Mt Barker, Claremont and North Melbourne. They epitomised a Nyoongar style of play described as 'magical' and 'anarchy and art rolled into one'.

Nicky Winmar is a Nyoongar man from Pingelly, Western Australia. He played 341 games of AFL football for South Fremantle, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs. In 1993 Nicky became an Indigenous hero when photographed responding to racial crowd abuse by raising his jumper and pointing to his black skin in a one fingered gesture of defiance.
