When Brother catches the flu, he misses a few days of school and neglects the homework Sister brought home; Sister loses her first tooth but Brother teases her for it.

A new cub at school is teased for his lack of sporting ability, and Mama decides to open her own quilt shop.

Sister is afraid to start third grade; Brother and Sister visit their grandparents.

The cubs are left in hysterics when Mama puts a ban on television watching for one week; Brother and Sister go trick or treating but make a plan to avoid Widder Jones' house.

Mama and Papa refuse to buy Brother and Sister expensive sport shirts, so the cubs try to earn the money themselves and Too-Tall thinks Brother has what it takes to join his gang.

Brother and Sister both sign up to try out for the Bear County Cardinals and the cubs are reminded of how fortunate they are to have loving parents and a cosy home to live in.
