On board the Esperanza, Esteban meets an Incan girl, Zia. The pair become friends after realising they are in possession of the same amulet.

The Esperanza draws ever closer to the Strait of Magellan, a passage dreaded by sailors; Mendoza is put in charge of the ship.

As a tornado bears down on the Esperanza, Mendoza hands the wheel to Perez and searches for Esteban and Zia, who are still prisoners in the hold.
