In Osijek, Igor Kozul, a lonely old fisherman, spots the body of a young girl on the edge of a river. Inspectors Vlado Kovac and Vesna Horak lead the investigation, and suspecting a homicide, they quickly consider Kozul a suspect.

Near the place where Ivana's body is discovered, Sanja, one of her friends, is also found dead. The young girl, who refused to answer Stribor's questions, has apparently died of an overdose.

With Stribor, Vesna meets Visnja, a young girl who knew Ivana and Sanja in the home for minors where they lived. The police officer does not understand why the director of the establishment did not report their disappearance.

Kozul's lifeless body is recovered from the Drava; Vlado and Stribor's relationship gets strained when the latter confides in him that he followed Visnja to an apartment where Ivana and Sanja also went before their deaths.

With the help of Stribor, Vlado and Vesna manage to identify the instigator of the series of murders; Visnja confides in Vesna that Roko sexually exploited her and other girls in exchange for cigarettes and cell phone credits.

Vesna and Vlado suspect Jakic, their superior, of having deleted Ivana and Sanja's files from the police server; worried about Visnja's disappearance, Vesna goes looking for her. She finds her on the banks of the Drava, dead.
