Nikhil Katira is a psychiatric nurse working at Wakefield, a facility perched on the edge of Australia's spectacular Blue Mountains. There's one problem: while his patients are getting better, he's getting worse.

Acting nursing unit manager Linda feels threatened when she learns that her job is being advertised; Nik is asked to be the best man at his sister's wedding, but it reminds him of his ex-fiancée, Kareena, who starts working at Ward C.

Genevieve's hypersexuality causes problems in the ward; encouraged by his colleagues, Nik interviews for Linda's job, but is abruptly called back to de-escalate a threatening situation when Tessa flies into a rage.

Episode 3
Nik is under pressure during an investigation into the accidental injury he caused to Tessa; Linda is forced to take part in a Restorative Justice session as a way of avoiding a criminal record over her road rage incident.

Kareena is confused about her feelings for Nik, and struggles with guilt over a patient who takes her own life.

Episode 5
James returns to Wakefield, and his behaviour presses buttons for Nik, whose mother was suicidal with grief when he was a child.

Linda announces that Nik has been successful in his application for the role of nursing unit manager, then promptly undercuts his triumph by telling him she withdrew her application; Genevieve experiences significant memory loss after ECT treatment.
